Consultation for Schools and Educational Organizations

Consultation for schools and educational organizations

Schools increasingly encounter learners whose advanced abilities, asynchronous development, or twice-exceptional profiles do not fit easily within standard educational structures. These students may need greater depth in one area, targeted scaffolding in another, and adults who can understand both at the same time.
I consult with schools, educators, and educational organizations seeking practical, strengths-based ways to understand and support gifted and twice-exceptional learners.

Who I Work With
  • Independent and public schools
  • School leaders and student-support teams
  • Classroom teachers and specialists
  • Admissions and placement professionals
  • Parent associations and school communities
  • Educational programs and nonprofit organizations

Areas of Consultation
  • Understanding giftedness, twice-exceptionality, and asynchronous development
  • Recognizing less obvious or uneven presentations of advanced ability
  • Considering the educational implications of complex learner profiles
  • Developing strengths-based approaches to student support
  • Academic challenge, differentiation, depth, and pacing
  • Supporting advanced learners who also need scaffolding
  • Family–school communication and collaborative problem-solving
  • School fit and environmental factors affecting engagement and well-being
  • Resources, professional referrals, and appropriate next steps

Individual Student Consultation
When appropriate permissions and confidentiality practices are in place, consultation may focus on the educational needs of an individual student. The process may include reviewing information shared by the school and family, identifying the central questions, considering patterns across settings, and developing possible educational next steps.
This service does not replace evaluation by a licensed psychologist, decisions made by a student’s formal school team, or services required under applicable law.

School-Wide Consultation
A school may also seek consultation on a broader question: how gifted and twice-exceptional learners are recognized, how advanced learning needs are addressed, how families are engaged, or where current practices may unintentionally overlook complex profiles. Consultation is adapted to the school’s philosophy, population, resources, and goals.

Family–School Collaboration
Gifted and twice-exceptional learners are best supported when families and schools can exchange information clearly and work from a shared understanding of the child. I can help teams identify areas of agreement, clarify differing observations, frame productive questions, and keep conversations centered on the learner’s educational experience.

Presentations and Facilitated Discussions
I offer presentations and facilitated discussions for faculty, parent communities, and professional groups. Formats may range from an introductory session to a focused discussion of a specific topic. Content can be customized for the audience and the organization’s goals.

Possible Topics
  • Recognizing giftedness in young children
  • Understanding twice-exceptionality
  • Asynchronous development
  • Looking beyond IQ scores
  • Supporting advanced learners without adding pressure
  • Perfectionism, intensity, and sensitivity
  • School fit for gifted and 2e learners
  • Strengthening family–school collaboration

A Customized Starting Point
School consultation begins with a brief description of your setting, the question you are trying to address, and the outcome you hope to achieve. From there, we can determine whether an individual consultation, team conversation, presentation, or another format would be most useful.
