Services for Families

Individualized guidance for the questions that do not have simple answers
Parenting a gifted or twice-exceptional child often involves decisions that cannot be made from a checklist. A child may be thriving in one area, struggling in another, and responding very differently across settings. Families may receive conflicting advice or find that conventional recommendations do not reflect the child in front of them.
Consultations provide a structured place to examine the whole picture, clarify priorities, and identify realistic next steps.

Who Consultations Are For
I work with parents and caregivers of gifted, highly gifted, profoundly gifted, and twice-exceptional children, with particular experience in early-childhood and elementary-school concerns. A formal gifted identification or diagnosis is not required.
  • A child learns rapidly, reasons with unusual depth, or has advanced interests.
  • Academic performance does not seem to reflect the child’s apparent ability.
  • The child needs more challenge, depth, flexibility, or a different pace.
  • Advanced abilities coexist with learning, attention, executive-function, or social-emotional challenges.
  • The child shows marked perfectionism, intensity, sensitivity, frustration, or uneven development.
  • A family is evaluating schools, programs, acceleration, enrichment, or other educational options.
  • Parents want to communicate more effectively with a teacher, school, or professional.

Parent Consultation

A parent consultation begins with the questions that matter most to your family. We look at your child’s strengths, challenges, interests, educational experiences, social-emotional needs, and the practical realities surrounding the situation.
The purpose is not to force every concern into a gifted or twice-exceptional framework. It is to determine which information is most relevant, distinguish immediate priorities from longer-term questions, and help you make decisions with greater clarity.

Understanding Your Child’s Profile
Gifted development is often uneven. A child may demonstrate sophisticated reasoning or language while needing age-appropriate support in organization, flexibility, motor skills, emotional regulation, or peer relationships. I help parents consider how different parts of a child’s profile interact and how the child’s environment may be influencing what they see.

Assessment and Report Consultation
Cognitive, academic, and neuropsychological reports can contain extensive information without clearly showing what the results mean for everyday learning. I help parents organize the information in existing reports, notice meaningful patterns, and consider their educational implications. We can also develop questions to bring back to the evaluator or school team.
I do not conduct psychological testing, make diagnoses, or replace the interpretation of a licensed evaluator. My role is educational: helping families understand and use available information when considering school, support, and enrichment decisions.

School Fit and Educational Planning
A strong school fit depends on more than academic level. We may consider opportunities for depth and acceleration, teaching philosophy, classroom structure, class size, peer culture, executive-function expectations, social-emotional support, communication practices, and the child’s overall experience of school.
I help families identify the conditions in which their child is most likely to learn and thrive, evaluate options using those criteria, and prepare useful questions for school visits and admissions conversations.

Educational Advocacy
Parents often know that something is not working but are unsure how to describe the concern or what to request. I help families organize relevant information, clarify their goals, prepare for meetings, and frame questions in a clear and constructive way.
Support may include discussing classroom needs, appropriate challenge, differentiation, pacing, communication, or possible accommodations. My role is to help you prepare and participate effectively; I do not provide legal representation or legal advice.

Resources, Referrals, and Enrichment
When appropriate, I help families identify relevant professionals, educational resources, community programs, and enrichment opportunities. Recommendations are based on the child’s needs, interests, age, location, and family priorities rather than on a generic list of gifted programs.

What to Expect
  • A focused conversation centered on your current questions.
  • Thoughtful consideration of the whole child and family context.
  • Clearer priorities and a more organized understanding of the situation.
  • Practical questions, options, resources, or next steps.
  • Follow-up support when additional consultation would be useful.

Scope of Services

Navigator of Giftedness provides educational consultation and parent guidance. Services are not psychotherapy, medical care, psychological assessment, diagnosis, legal advice, or crisis support. When a family’s needs fall outside my scope, I may recommend consultation with an appropriately qualified professional.
